Another center has been linked for a trade with the Edmonton Oilers

With Edmonton reportedly linked to multiple forwards like Brayden Schenn, adding a player like Pageau would help their bottom six while providing depth scoring and defensive reliability.

Pageau's contract is of $5 million AAV for one more season and could be a hurdle for the Oilers since they don't have much space in their salary cap.

Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello is unlikely to retain their salary since the New York Islanders are looking to reset their roster in the coming years, and if they are trading him, then they would want to cut ties entirely, and so would his salary.

The Oilers are tight on cap space and would need to make corresponding moves or involve a third team to facilitate the deal.

That being said, Pageau's skill set aligns well with what GM Stan Bowman has emphasized, that they are trying to find a bottom-six forward who can contribute defensively while adding some scoring.

The 32-year-old has rebounded from a down year by winning faceoffs at a career-high 59.7% rate and making him an asset for playoff hockey.

His shutdown style and special teams presence could provide a much-needed boost to Edmonton's depth.

Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights are also reportedly in the mix for Pageau, which could create a bidding war.
