The Edmonton Oilers are exploring options to help their defense ahead of a critical playoff run and Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo is emerging as a potential trade target.

Carlo has logged 610 NHL games which is including 72 playoff appearances and signed for three more seasons at $4.1M and his contract will become more manageable as the salary cap rises.
According to Jimmy Murphy of RG, the Bruins are actively shopping Carlo and are looking for a roster player and a 2025 second-round pick or a top prospect in return.
"If the Bruins decided to move him before the NHL Trade Deadline, this source believes they would want a roster player and either a 2025 second-round pick or a 'top' prospect.

For the Oilers, that price seems reasonable if they can part with a depth forward or someone like Troy Stecher.
However, Carlo's underwhelming play this season raises concerns about whether he's the right fit for Edmonton's defense.
The Oilers also need to decide on John Klingberg's role before the trade deadline since the 31-year-old blueliner, who hadn't played in over a year due to injury, has shown flashes of solid play in his first five games back.
Edmonton has seven games left to evaluate Klingberg before determining whether to acquire additional defensive insurance.
If Klingberg is continuing to be reliable, the Oilers might avoid making a move, but if not, a trade for Brandon Carlo or even a call-up for AHL defenseman Josh Brown could be in the cards.
