At almost 40 years of age, Corey Perry is proving to the hockey world that age is just a number.
The Edmonton Oilers are currently one of the hottest teams in the NHL, but you would be remiss not to tip your cap to the Oilers veteran group, particularly Corey Perry.
Perry has dressed up for all 31 of Edmonton's games thus far -- pretty impressive for the. "old worm".
Corey Perry showing experience is key
He's already notched six goals, tied for fourth most on the team, trailing superstar trio of Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman. The former Hart Trophy winger is on pace for his second-most goals in a season since 2017-18.
Four of Perry's six goals have either tied the game or given Edmonton the lead, and he's got one game-winning goal. His two scraps have provided a needed spark to the team: in both cases, the Oilers were trailing at the time he fought and went on to win the game. -The Hockey News
At age 39, Perry's stats so far in 2024-25 are far superior to the prior five seasons combined, when he was between ages 33 and 38. His goals per game is up, from .178 to .194, his Corsi is up, from 49.9% to 54.2%, and his Fenwick is up, from 50.1% to 53.2%.
Many NHL fans consider having Corey Perry on their team to be a curse. Sure, he's been party of 4 teams that lost in the the Stanley Cup Final, but I don't believe in the "curse".
Simply put, there is no curse. Corey Perry won the Cup back in 07' and has constantly improved every team he's played for since.
