Breaking news in the NHL as The New York Rangers have acquired defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 Third-Round pick and a 2025 Sixth-Round pick from Seattle Kraken in exchange for Kaapo Kakko.

Well folks, it appears as if though GM Chris Drury has officially hit the panic button on the season, trading away their former 2019 2nd overall pick to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for blue-liner Will Borgen and a handful of picks.

Being a 2nd overall pick, Kaapo Kakko came into the NHL with a certain degree of hype, but has never truly been able to gain a significant amount of traction.

This moves comes after Kakko was healthy scratched against the Nashville Predators last night.

After being held out of the lineup Sunday after head coach Peter Laviolette wanted "fresh legs" on the ice against the St. Louis Blues, Kakko poured out some of his frustration to the media Tuesday.

"I was suprised, yeah. I know you got to do something as a coach when you're losing games, but I think it's just easy to pick a young guy and boot him out," the 23-year-old forward said, per Mollie Walker of the New York Post. "That's how I feel, to be honest. Haven't been on the ice too much when [opponents] score a goal ... I have not been the worst guy, but that was me out of the lineup."

Now, the New York Rangers are officially in a downward spiral, and their risk of missing out of the post season is becoming real.

in 330 NHL games, Kaapo Kakko has notched 61 goals and 71 assists for a combined total of 131 points, posting an even +/- rating on the ice.

The Edmonton Oilers can officially cross Kaapo Kakko of their list of potential trade targets come deadline.
