Adrian Kempe ruffles feathers in Oil Country on social media
Adrian Kempe has landed himself under the proverbial hot-seat for a dirty slew-foot on Connor McDavid and was issued a maximum $5000 dollar fine for his actions. While Connor McDavid was able to walk away injury free, it seems that Adrian Kempe finds his situation rather amusing despite the penalty.
Following the official announcement of Adrian Kempe's fine, NHL Player and Safety made an official post on instagram, giving fans a general breakdown of Kempe's punishment.
According to Liam McCormick, Kempe liked the post from TSN announcing the NHL's fine, which is being seen by many fans as him gloating or thinking positively of trying to injure McDavid. At the very least, it's pretty cheeky.
Another reason Kempe liking the post of his supplemental discipline is rubbing Oilers fans wrong was the obviously coordinated effort from the Kings to target McDavid with physical play all night.
For those who missed it, with just 11:30 left in the 3rd period, Connor mcDavid was playing the puck along the boards, when Adrian Kempe came up behind him, delivering a nasty slew foot which sent him flying head over heals.
And for those who don't know, slew footing occurs when a player uses a leg or a foot to knock, drag, or sweep an opposing player's feet from under them, or pushes another player's upper body backward with an arm or elbow and at the same time, with a forward motion of their leg, knocks, drags, or sweeps that player's feet from under them -- a nasty maneuver which often leads to injuries.
Regardless, it should be interesting to see how things play out the next time these two teams meet.
Adrian Kempe obviously feels no remorse for almost injuring McDavid, and this could be the start of a serious war between the Oilers and Kings.
