Breaking news in Oil country as the Edmonton Oilers have claimed defenceman Alec Regula off waivers from the Boston Bruins.
A third-round pick (67th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018, Regula made his NHL debut as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2020-21 season. He was dealt to Boston in June 2023 along with Ian Mitchell in exchange for Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall. -TSN
Regula spent the entire 2023-24 season with the Bruins AHL team, recording an impressive total of 26 points in 55 games, along with an incredible +36 on ice rating. He's also 6'4 and 210 pounds, a size that's an inherent asset in hockey. -Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily
Personally, I love this move by Stan Bowman.
Although hockey enthusiasts might not be familiar with his name, he's put up some pretty impressive numbers in the AHL.
Edmonton Oilers Travis Dermott has proven to be a failed PTO experiment by the Edmonton Oilers, and this new acquisition potentially spark some more roster moves by GM Stan Bowman.
Despite this move might just be a strategic attempt to bolster the Edmonton Oilers farm affiliate in Bakersfield, I give Stan Bowman full marks for this sneaky pickup.
It should be interesting to see what the Edmonton do with their new blue-liner in the coming days.
