Breaking news in the OHL as former Edmonton Oilers forward Brad Malone has been promoted as the interim head coach of the Oshawa Generals.

Brad Malone, 35, has always been a beloved member of the Edmonton Oilers franchise.

Although he struggled to gain traction at the NHL level, you would be remiss not to acknowledge all of his personal success at the AHL level.

On September 5th, the Oshawa Generals announced Brad Malone as the team's new Player Development Coach.

Fast-forward three months later, and Brad Malone's professional career has taken a significant turn. On Monday, December 9th, the Generals relieved Steve O'Rourke of his head coaching duties.

His interim replacement is former Edmonton Oilers forward Brad Malone.

This move is certainly curious, as the Generals boast an East Division-best record of 18-10-1. Breathing down their necks in the standings are the Kingston Frontenacs, who sit one point behind them.

Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 2007, Malone went on to play with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers before retiring at the end of the last season, wrapping up his final years with the Bakersfield Condors following the 2024 Calder Cup playoffs.

Malone played 41 games for the Edmonton Oilers, including two Stanley Cup playoff games for the team in 2022.

The beloved former captain of Bakersfield Condors will be taking on a new endeavour with the Oshawa as their interim head coach.
