After the Edmonton Oilers blew-out the New York Rangers 6-2, Rangers general manager Chris Drury seems to be hitting the panic button.

The Edmonton Oilers are feeling pretty good this week after a dominant performance over the New York Rangers.

Although forwards Zach Hyman and Viktor Arvidsson missed the game due to injury, the Oilers secured a much needed victory with offensive contributions from across their lineup.

With that being said, it seems the blowout broke the New York Rangers, and general manager Chris Drury has just opened the team up for business.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that the New York Rangers have placed captain Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider on the trade block.

The New York Rangers are currently sitting at a respectable 12-6-1 record, but the loss to the Oilers has clearly emphasized major flaws in their lineup.

Trading Trouba, their team Captain, is a significant message itself. The 30 year old right shot defenceman is under contract for $8M per season for this season and next, and in recent years, his level of play has gone downhill.

It's also worth mentioning that Jacob Trouba has a full no-movement clause, making his demotion to the trade block far more intriguing.

33 year old Chris Kreider is under contract at $6.5M for this season and two more. Kreider's been with the Rangers for his entire 834 game NHL career. Kreider is still producing incredibly well for a player his age and that doesn't really have star status in the NHL.

Despite the New York Rangers having an impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign, Connor McDavid continues his trend of forcing teams into hasty panic trades.
