As the Edmonton Oilers go full steam ahead into the the 2024-25 season, certain aspects of the roster haven't quite come together as planned. Recently, Jason Strudkwick of the Got Yer' Back podcast reported that GM Stan Bowman will discuss an imminent "trade agreement" with forward Jeff Skinner.

While the Edmonton Oilers have been exciting to watch the past few weeks, one player in particular who's been frustrating to watch is Jeff Skinner.

The Edmonton Oilers acquired the former Buffalo Sabres Ace during the offseason, and expectations were at an all time high.

With that being said, things haven't exactly gone according to plan.

During practice yesterday, Jeff Skinner found himself in Kris Knoblauch's dog-house, back on the 4th line where he'll likely see reduce minutes moving forward.

Now, with the return of Evander Kane set to happen in March, GM Stan Bowman will need to figure out what to do with his depreciating asset.

Jason Strudwick hints at imminent trade agreement

Jason Strudwick form the GYB Podcast reports that Bowman will eventually have a conversation with Skinner about relocating, he doesn't see the two parties ending this season together.

Jason Strudwick goes on to highlight that there's no spot for him on the roster, especially because of his re-occurring demotions to the 4th line -- it just hasn't worked out unfortunately.

«I believe there's going to be a mutual agreement to say guys, this just isn't working out.» Strudwick said Skinner is a good player, but his style just might not fit with the team. «Let's find a solution where we're going to get the chance to move you to someplace you can play and play more. He's not a fourth-liner.»

Just after it seemed he was settling into a decent role on the third line, he's been bumped down to the fourth again. Last night, Skinner only played 11 minutes of against the Florida Panthers.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily clearly, the Jeff Skinner acquisition is only hurting the team. His steep $3 million AAV per season price-tag is proving too costly for his current level of production, and that money could be spent elsewhere.

Personally, its tough to say wether or not Skinner would be interested moving, but waiving his NMC and embracing a change of scenery could help spark his offensive groove.

At this point, he may even welcome a fresh start to help his potential earnings next year.
