In a recent segment of Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer, the hockey pundit suggests the Oilers are targeting an "off-radar" defenceman.

It's no secret by now that the Edmonton Oilers have been exploring the market for a shut-down right-handed shot blue-liner to bolster their back-end, but new reports from Stauffer suggests the Oilers could be interested in pursuing a left-handed puck-moving defenceman instead.

»At some point, they're adding a defenceman. It's not necessarily going to be a shut-down defenceman, it's not necessarily going to be a right shot defenceman - could be a lefty that plays the right side, and it might not be a guy that's on anyone's radar.»

The Oilers have already been connected to other d-men in the market such as Ivan Provorov, Rasmus Ristolainen, but none of them have necessarily drawn a ton of excitement.

Some surprising teams are already showing signs of struggle this season, and could be looking to make an early trade to shake things up.

Teams like the Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators could try to make a shake-up deal, and potentially make some deals involving players that weren't thought to be available.
-Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily

Bob Stauffer is recognized as the most connected insider in the Oilers organization, and if he's being this confident in his trade prediction, it probably means GM Stan Bowman is up to something big.

The recent injury to Darnell Nurse has increased the team's need to acquire some much needed support, and the Oilers play in the back-end continues to be a cause for concern.
