Late in the second period last night against the Ottawa Senators, Zack Hyman was involved in an awkward collision with a Sens player, resulting in the Oilers Ace being sidelined for the 3rd period.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch made himself available for his usual post game interviews, and Knoblauch has indeed confirmed Zach Hyman has sustained an injury, but wasn't able to provide any further details.
"No update on him. Obviously, he wasn't good enough to return, and we'll see how he's doing tonight. But right now, no update." - Coach Knoblauch
While the broadcast didn't catch a view of the hit tonight against Hyman, last night he was blown up by Habs defenceman Arber Xhekaj. He definitely could've been feeling something from that hit. -Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily
The Oilers managed to get the win last night by a score of 5-2, putting up a dominant performance against the Ottawa Senators. -- but Hyman's injury remains an underlying concern.
Having Hyman out due to injury is a serious blow to the organization. So far, the Oilers have had to make due without Evander Kane, Viktor Arvidsson, and Darnell Nurse, including McDavids absence a few weeks prior.
Although Hyman isn't producing at his normal rate, he's still notched a respectable 8 points playing alongside Connor McDavid.
Hopefully, Hyman's injuries aren't too serious and he'll be back in the lineup as soon as possible.
