The 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament is finally over, and Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid finally got a taste of winning at the NHL level. While winning the 4 Nations Face-Off is far from a Stanley Cup, Connor McDavid will look to keep the momentum going heading into the home stretch of the regular season. That said, the Edmonton Oilers had to privilege of watching their captain lead Team Canada to international glory, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been amazed at what he's seen.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, a regular linemate of McDavid's in Edmonton, was on the edge of his seat along with everyone else and was glad to see his country and compatriot claim an exciting win that keeps Canada at the top of the highest echelon of the sport.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins impressed by Connor McDavid

«Yeah, it was awesome,» Nugent-Hopkins said. «We were watching together, obviously pretty nervous, but you're cheering for Canada and of course you're cheering for Connor, and to see him get that was pretty special.»

«Not a lot of talking when the game was on. Everybody was pretty dialed in, but we went pretty nuts when that went in, so a lot of fun to see that for him and for Canada. You don't really doubt that he's going to do something like that, so just always fun to see him have a performance like that.»

Although head coach Kris Knoblauch was hard at work this week getting his troops ready for tomorrow's matchup against the Flyers, he admits that watching his best player perform on hockey's biggest stage was something he couldn't miss.
The Oilers captain is undoubtedly feeling the effects of playing high level hockey, Knoblauch marvels at McDavid's unwavering commitment to the team.
"Connor never wants to take any time off. He's always wants to play. He always wants to be with his team," he said. "He's always contributing, whether that's a game or giving him an option on a practice. I've given him many options to [take a break], saying 'Hey, maybe the minutes were high last night. Maybe you're better off to not practice the next day,' but he's always wanting to be part of the team and not take time off."

The Oilers will look to get back in the win column when the take on the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow morning.
