The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a nail biting 3-2 overtime win against the San Jose Sharks, but the Oilers set a record low number yesterday, recording just 4 hits the entire game.

Oilers set what is surely a new franchise low with 4 hits today. 2 by Nurse, 1 each by Bouchard & Kulak.

12-way tie among forwards with 0 hits each.

During the game yesterday, Edmonton Oilers blue liners Brett Kulak, Evan Bouchard, and Darnell Nurse recorded just one hit, and the Oilers forward group recorded 0.

As thrilling as the game was to watch, these kind of numbers won't be sustainable leading up to the playoffs when physicality ramps up.

It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers took a big hit in physicality when they lost forward Evander Kane due to rehabilitation.

Although the Edmonton Oilers carried a majority of the puck possession yesterday, they will need to increase those number tremendously against a formidable Ottawa Senators team tonight.

According to Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, League pundits and media close to the team have also mentioned that the Oilers are not responding to players who are under duress from the opponents including Evan Bouchard who received a dirty hit last week from Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman.

Many who have watched the game over the years decades state that playoff hockey is all about fighting for every inch of the ice as the lanes grow smaller and the ice becomes less available for free willing and scoring.
-Oilers Daily

I think it's safe to say that Oilers fans are seriously looking forward to when Evander Kane comes back to the lineup in March.
