The NHL trade deadline is inching closer, and GM Stan Bowman has his eyes set on making a strategic trade to bolster the team. That said, hockey insider Elliotte Friedman recently sent shockwaves down the league, reporting that the Edmonton Oilers have expressed interest in acquiring Ryan Donato from the Chicago Blackhawks.

While Ryan Donato may be having a career season in the Windy City, analysts over at Oilers Nation have waves the red flag, stating the Oilers should stay clear of Donato for a very specific reason.

Ryan Donato is too small

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, He's a versatile player that can also play wing and the penalty kill, which along with his scoring makes him look like an attractive target - but the Oilers simply have no roster fit for him. It especially wouldn't be worth it for him to play 4th line minutes.
We kept hearing they want to get bigger, add some toughness to their bottom six. Ryan Donato doesn't exactly scratch that itch

Is Ryan Donato such a massive upgrade over a whatever? Kasperi Kapanen? For that role that you need what the Oilers currently have, how much different is Ryan Donato?

Simply put, the Edmonton Oilers should be targeting a physical player who can add toughness to the lineup, and Ryan Donato doesn't fit the bill.
Donato, 28, is enjoying a standout season with the Blackhawks, tallying 19 goals and 18 assists over 52 games. His versatility allows him to play both center and wing positions, making him a valuable asset for teams seeking depth and flexibility in their lineup.
While his scoring prowess may seem attractive, the Oilers are far better off focusing on adding a player who can bring so physicality to the lineup.
