It was recently announced that Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson would be willing to move his NTC to join the Stanley Cup effort in Edmonton -- but there's a stipulation. According to Elliotte Friedman, John Gibson has no interest in a tandem role and needs assurances that he'll be the undisputed #1 starter.

Earlier today, GM Stan Bowman revealed in an interview that he's not interested in upgrading goaltenders, making John Gibson's acquisition unlikely.
I know that for whatever reason he seems to get some criticism. I guess goalies in general tend to. I've never really understood why

It's just the randomness of fans or the media. I just look at: How is he performing? From November on, he's been very consistent. He's been a very good goalie. Goalies always have a goal here and there you don't like.

Well, we're going to look at every option for improving. But I would say no. That's not a big issue with our team.

John Gibson will come to Edmonton based on one condition

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, On today's edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that John Gibson would waive his no-trade clause for the Oilers, but that he wouldn't want to be a tandem goalie - he wants to be the full starter.
One of the things I've heard during the season was that Gibson's preferences were Edmonton and Carolina One thing I heard is that Gibson wants a situation where he's going to be the number one. And it's sort of going to be his job, he wants to be the guy So, I don't know if a Gibson - Skinner duo is going to work for him.

- Elliotte Friedman

I'll just say that one of the things I heard was that Gibson - Edmonton, I don't know if that is still as likely as I thought it might have been early in the season for that reason.

- Elliotte Friedman

It's surprising to hear that John Gibson would risk missing out on the opportunity to play with the Oilers based on such an outlandish demand.
As it stands, it appears that the Oilers will be remaining with their current tandem, and John Gibson will have to explore opportunities as the #1 starter elsewhere.
