Prominent Edmonton Oilers David Staples has just sparked an interesting conversation in Oil Country, naming Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas as a potential trade target.

On a recent segment of Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer, the hockey pundit revisited a familiar topic, circling back to a rumour about the Edmonton Oilers pursuing a depth defenceman in a trade.

Said Stauffer: «I could foresee a scenario where the Edmonton Oilers at some point address their defense, looking for a guy capable of playing the right side, does not have to be a shut down guy, could be a left shot guy, could be a guy that can move the puck, and could be a guy with a little bit of term. But I'm not saying who it is.»

Recently, trade rumours surrounding the Edmonton Oilers have been swirling, with speculation about Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler being traded Edmonton in a blockbuster deal.

But now, Edmonton Oilers insider David Staples envisions a different trade scenario.

When we look at the Ducks there's also an intriguing wild card trade candidate, Radko Gudas, 34, a right shot d-man who is more of a ferocious shut down player than a puckmover. Gudas has a no-trade clause with a 16-team no-trade list. Again, if Edmonton is on it, Gudas would have to waive. He earns $4 million a year and has another year left on his deal.

Radko Gudas, a gritty veteran defenseman for the Anaheim Ducks could be the solution the Oilers are seeking. According to sources, Gudas has emerged on the Oilers radar.

Gudas is also a wrecking ball. The defender might not be the most towering defender, but he's more than willing to throw his body around. In 2023-24 he threw 232 hits. That was 120 more hits than the next defender for the Ducks.

Last year, Gudas also had a very strong season with an abysmal Anaheim Ducks team.

The Ducks had a -91 goal differential during the 2023-24 regular seasons -- one of the worst in the NHL.

Gudas on the other hand, was an impressive +14 rating on the ice.

Although he was recently named captain of the Anaheim Ducks this season, one can only assume the idea of joining a Stanley Cup contender would be appealing
