Edmonton Oilers release official statement on Evander Kane
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane underwent successful knee surgery on Thursday in Edmonton. It is expected that he will require four to eight weeks of recovery time.
While this procedure is unrelated to his abdominal surgery in September, it will require him to pause his current rehabilitation schedule to recover from Thursday's operation.
His rehabilitation will continue to take place in Edmonton under the supervision of the club's medical staff.
Evander Kane underwent surgery over the offseason to fix multiple abdominal tears and a sports hernia.
Initially, insiders confirmed Evander Kane would be coming back as early as March, Kane's new set back has definitely altered Stan Bowman's trade deadline plans.
While having Evander Kane back in the lineup is the best case scenario, his absence will give Stan Bowman over $5 million dollars in cap space to bring in some much needed help for another Stanley Cup push.
Insider Frank Seravalli has similarly reported that the Oilers could push the boundaries with LTIR rules regarding Kane's injury. The Edmonton Oilers could ice a playoff lineup far above the salary cap, like Vegas and Tampa Bay have done in recent years.
Not only would the Oilers have the cap flexibility to add more salary, they would also be getting a premier power forward in Evander Kane back for the playoffs.
