The Edmonton Oilers are inching closer to hitting the panic button regarding their goaltending situation, and all signs are indicating that GM Stan Bowman will need to make an upgrade between the pipes come NHL trade deadline. That said, Jordan Binnington has earned the respect of hockey fans across Canada following an impressive performance at the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament, and analysts across the NHL believe that he could be the answer the Edmonton Oilers are seeking.

Jordan Binnington could be the answer Edmonton Oilers are seeking
I get a text from a club exec, not related to the St. Louis Blues, saying «What do you think the percentage is that [Doug Armstrong] parlays this Jordan Binnington success?» And then he answers the question, «99.9%»
- Darren Dreger
Goaltending is Edmonton's Achilles' heel, and Jordan Binnington could be the answer. While his .898 save percentage in 37 games this year is underwhelming, don't forget the magic he brought in 2018-19, backstopping the Blues to an unlikely Stanley Cup victory.
With a $6 million cap hit running through 2026-27 and an 18-team no-trade list, Binnington's contract is hefty, but his playoff pedigree makes him worth a look.
The clock is ticking, and the Blues have decisions to make. Whether they're sellers or surprise buyers, Edmonton should keep a close eye on St. Louis.
Regardless, over the past 8 weeks,
Stuart Skinner and
Calvin Pickard have demonstrated that they aren't good enough to win a Stanley Cup this season.
