Kris Knoblauch starting to grow weary of Stuart Skinner - calls him out post game
The Edmonton Oilers are coming off two back-to-back losses to Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals, and head coach Kris Knoblauch is starting to show signs of frustration regarding his goaltending tandem.
Well folks, the Edmonton Oilers are absolutely bleeding goals right now. In just two games, the Oilers have let in an astounding 13 goals, and all signs are indicating that the team will eventually need a significant upgrade in net.
During yesterday's postgame interviews,
Mattias Ekholm and Kris Knoblauch were quick to jump to Skinner's defence, stating that the game was lost due to costly turnovers and sloppy defensive play.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, While speaking to the media this morning about the loss from yesterday, Knoblauch admitted that while their turnovers weren't good, sometimes the goaltender needs to make a save too.
There are going to be mistakes, and that's where you need your goaltender to make some saves.
- Coach Knoblauch
McCormick adds that earlier this month, Coach Knoblauch pulled a previously rare move and called out Stuart Skinner for allowing two unacceptable goals against.
The first two I felt he could've had. Those are - I thought he could have had those, I didn't think he found those.
- Coach Knoblauch
Stuart Skinner has held Knoblauch's vote of confidence all season long, as the game against the Colorado Avalanche was the first time Skinner was pulled all season long, but his patience appears to be dwindling.
With the NHL trade deadline rapidly appraoching, it should be interesting to see if GM Bowman actively pursues an upgrade between the pipes.
As it stands, the quality of the Oilers goaltending is not Stanley Cup calibre.
