Bringing back white jerseys at home would be a nostalgic change for longtime NHL fans.

For decades, home teams traditionally wore white but that switched in 2003-04 when the league mandated dark jerseys at home.
Now, according to Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News, the NHL is considering reversing that under the following collective bargaining agreement and making the home team wear their white jersey at home.
The report also suggests the league is exploring the possibility of select matchups featuring both teams in dark jerseys, such as the Oilers wearing their royal blue against the Flames' bright red.
This would bring more variety to in-game aesthetics and this is something other leagues like the NBA have embraced with more flexible jersey choices, and people are adoring it.
The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly working on a new alternate jersey which is expected to be a lighter color and will be aligning with this potential change.
The Oilers' white jerseys have deep historical significance since they were worn during their 1980s dynasty, during their best period in history.
With the NHL already embracing jersey ads, the fans would likely welcome more flexibility in uniform combinations.
The current CBA expires after the 2025-26 season, so this discussion is still in early stages, but it could add a fresh look to NHL broadcasts while also honoring the league's past.
