Yesterday, Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas sent shockwaves down the NHL by placing Jesse Puljujarvi on unconditional waivers for contract termination purposes. Although the decision is undoubtedly disappointing, Kyle Dubas explained his decision in a official statement.

Back on Dec 30th, Kyle Dubas place Jesse Puljujarvi on waivers in order to help him land another opportunity with a different team. Unfortunately, there were no takers which lead Kyle Dubas to take more serious measures.
That said, Kyle Dubas took things a step further yesterday by placing Puljujarvi on unconditional waivers.

Dubas alluded to that possibility in a statement the Penguins released on Saturday.

«Over the last week [talks with Puljujarvi's agent] have led to us granting Jesse his request for contract termination so he may explore opportunities with other organizations around the world,» part of his statement read. «In the end, we felt that was the fair thing to do given the work Jesse has put in to getting himself back to this level.»

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Earlier this season, Puljujarvi admitted he was frustrated with the Penguins organization for benching and scratching him after rehabbing from complex surgery.
»It's frustrating. I worked for 1.5 years to be in good shape for the season, but it doesn't help. This is not nice. Yes, it eats a man» says Puljujärvi, annoyed

Dubas alluded towards exploring trades for Puljujarvi with other NHL teams, but clearly found no one interested. Puljujarvi was under contract for only $800K this season, and with no team willing to take him at that number, it's unlikely he was getting an NHL contract next season. Puljujarvi will likely return home to Finland, and play in Liiga.

It appears that Jesse Puljujarvi's time in the NHL has come to an end, and it's looking like he will be trying his luck overseas.
