Breaking news as TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun has reported that Anaheim Ducks all-star goaltender John Gibson would be open to a deal with the Edmonton Oilers by waiving his no trade clause.

"Gibson has a modified no-trade clause, but my understanding is he would consider the Oilers, who came one win short of the Cup last season. I do believe John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks would waive his no-trade clause to go to Edmonton. So there's that. But it sure doesn't sound like Bowman sees goaltending as an area of concern.»

- Pierre LeBrun, The Athletic
Although the Oilers fanbase relishes the idea of having a goaltender of Gibson's stature join their Stanley Cup efforts, LeBrun emphasizes that Oilers would be reluctant to sign him, stating that the team seems firm on sticking with Stuart Skinner.
In addition, Stan Bowman recently admitted that he does not view goaltending as an area of concern, making the possibility of acquiring John Gibson a long-shot.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, it appears it's Stan Bowman and the Oilers that's closing the door on a potential trade for Gibson - or any other goalie for that matter. To LeBrun, Bowman stressed how much he's been satisfied with the Oilers goaltending.
Our goalies have been great So, I'm not sure where that comes from. We certainly believe in both of them, and we think they've been a big part of why our team has been so consistent over the last several months here.

- Stan Bowman

While Stuart Skinner has proven to be a reliable goaltender, he's also extremely cost efficient in comparison to Gibson.
Trading for John Gibson and his $6.4M contract for the next three seasons would require a major change in the Oilers salary cap situation, which is already going to be tight in the next few seasons. Gibson would need to come to Edmonton at 75% retained salary in a three-team deal.

-Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily

Although it may be too early to consider giving up on Stuart Skinner just yet, general manager Stan Bowman has an interesting trade scenario to consider here.
Taking on Gibsons huge salary could be a massive risk for the team, but not entirely impossible if salary retention comes into play.
