The Edmonton Oilers are currently down 2-1 heading into the final frame, and San Jose Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov has been absolutely dominant.

The San Jose Sharks social media is absolutely blowing up right now, as fans across the NHL are tipping their cap to the 22 year old Russian goaltender who's been giving the Edmonton Oilers goaltender a tough time so far.

Yaroslav Asakarov has been putting on a clinic so far, stopping 30 of 31 shots he's faced. The Sharks goaltender is averaging over 1 save per minute right now, demonstrating a remarkable amount of athleticism and skill.

In this instance, Edmonton Oilers forward Adam Henrique found himself with a golden scoring opportunity alone in the slot.

He tried his luck with a slick backhans shot, but Askarov stood firm with an unbelievable glove save to rob Henrique.

Askarov also denied Connor McDavid, who attempted to create a rebound opportunity by firing a sneaky shot off his pads. However, the young Russian goalie stayed sharp and refused to give an inch.

With the Nashville Predators committing long-term to Juuse Saros, Askarov sought a full-time NHL role, avoiding more time in the AHL.

San Jose, amid a rebuild, offered him that chance, with their current goaltending tandem of MacKenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek providing space for Yaroslav Askarov to step in.

The Predators traded Askarov to the Sharks as part of a six asset package, and the trade appears to be a home run so far.

Hopefully, the Edmonton Oilers can figure out a way to solve him heading into the 3rd period.
