NHL hockey scouts expose hard truth about Brandon Saad
Recently, multiple sources have confirmed that veteran forward Brandon Saad will be meeting with the Edmonton oilers this week to try to work out the details of a new contract.
Hockey analysts around the league are making bold predictions about Saad's future, claiming Edmonton would be the perfect destination for the former Stanley Cup Champion.
Now, it's looking like those rumours are becoming a reality as Brandon Saad will be meeting with the Oilers front office to negotiate a potential stint in Northern Alberta.
With that being said, while the potential addition of a veteran like Saad has sparked excitement in Oil Country, some NHL scouts around the league have expressed some concern.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Interestingly, one scout said that he'd be worried of the Oilers having too many players on «last chance» deals.
If I were the Oilers I'd be concerned that they have a lot of guys in the same boat as (Saad). Shadows of once good players
- NHL Scout
One former player and a scout from the Metropolitan division shared some real concerns about Saad - saying he has no drive or decent play left.
«Nada. Nothing (left).» - Metropolitan Scout.
«Last one on the ice and first one off. Maybe a change of scenery helps.» -Former player.
On the other hand, there were a few scouts praising Saad, and citing that he would be an upgrade on the Oilers current bottom six.
»He is better than most of the Oilers' bottom-six currently» - Central Scout
«Hard player to defend/contain when he has his motor going. Similar to Klingberg, why not take a chance?» - Central Scout
Overall, the sentiment seems to be quite bad around Brandon Saad. The Edmonton Oilers are the second oldest team in the league, and scouts seem to think that Saad's best days are behind him.
