Stuart Skinner's latest struggles against the Colorado Avalanche have restarted questions about the Edmonton Oilers' goaltending stability as the team pushes for a deep playoff run this year.

While Skinner has shown flashes throughout the season, his inconsistency is becoming a concern for the Edmonton Oilers
Since being named the Oilers' starter following Jack Campbell's departure, Skinner has put up respectable numbers with a 20-12-4 and a 2.68 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage.
After allowing two weak goals early, Coach Kris Knoblauch pulled Skinner for Calvin Pickard in the second period and this decision showed the team's uncertainty about relying only on Skinner in high-stakes situations.
These concerns were echoed by another former goaltender in the early days of the season as Steve Valiquette was on the Kyper and Bourne Show on Sportsnet an expressed that Skinner's lateral movement was his main issue.
"Stuart Skinner had already cost the Oilers at least 1 Cup. Can't keep adding to that number."

With the NHL trade deadline looming, Oilers GM Stan Bowman may look to reinforce the goaltending position and names like Karel Vejmelka from the Utah Hockey Club and John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks are being seen as potential trade targets.
Both teams are unlikely to make the playoffs and are making their goalies more accessible.
Vejmelka offers a cost-effective option, while Gibson provides a veteran experience for the Edmonton Oilers.
Adding another goalie could create a tandem with Skinner and is preventing burnout and making sure there is some consistency in the postseason.
Whether Bowman makes a move or sticks with Skinner remains to be seen.
