The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL, and analysts around the NHL have them as favourites to win the Stanley Cup. However, on a recent segment of Don Cherry's grapevine podcast, the veteran hockey pundit has sided with the Toronto Maple Leafs to take home hockey's ultimate prize.

As many fans already know, Edmonton has not won the NHL championship since 1990. The last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup final was the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.
Edmonton won the Stanley Cup final in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990. The Oilers were Canada's last hockey dynasty with five Cup wins and included players like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Grant Fuhr.
Last season, the northern Alberta team made its first Stanley Cup final appearance since 2006, when the Oilers lost in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes -- but all signs point to the Oil make another legendary run to the cup final this season.
That said, Don Cherry recently pumped the brakes on the Oilers championship odds, favouring the Maple Leafs instead.
"The Oilers are plus 65 (+650), yeah. And the Leafs are plus 13 (+1300). I would take the Leafs, yep," Cherry said.

According to Sportskeeda, Cherry picked the $3.8 billion-worth Toronto Maple Leafs (via Forbes) over the Oilers.
FanDuel has the Oilers tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for the shortest odds to win the Stanley Cup at +650. The Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets have the next shortest odds at +1300 in a tie for sixth.

Don Cherry likes the value of the Maple Leafs winning the Cup for the first time since 1967, the longest championship drought in the NHL.

Will Don Cherry's wild decision prove to be the right one? Time will tell.
