Edmonton Oilers prove they don't need Connor McDavid to win games
The Edmonton Oilers are absolutely rolling right now, defeating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Seattle Kraken in back-to-back victories. Despite Connor McDavid being left off the score sheet, the Oilers demonstrated their depth by securing two crucial victories without their captains offensive contributions.
The Edmonton Oilers made the journey to Climate Pledge Arena last night as they took on their Division Rival Seattle Kraken, and the team did not disappoint.
While the Seattle Kraken came roaring back to make it a 3-2 game, the Edmonton Oilers avoided another near meltdown with a great shut-down performance late in the 3rd.
Despite the Oilers getting key contributions from depth players, this marks the 2nd straight came Connor McDavid has been left off the score sheet.
Oilers winning without Connor McDavid's contributions
According to Daily Hive, the victory in Seattle marked the first time ever that the Oilers were able to win consecutive games where McDavid recorded no points. Sportsnet broadcaster Jack Michaels pointed this out on social media following the game.
It may sound like a surprising statistic, but you have to consider that McDavid going consecutive games without a point does not happen all that often. Since 2021, that has only happened nine times. Not having your best player score any points will make it difficult for any team in the league to win consecutive games, especially for a team that relies so heavily on their top scorers like the Oilers.
-Daily Hive
Although Connor McDavid may be dropping in the scoring race, the Oilers are proving that they're not the one-trick pony everyone though they were.
Overall, last night was a statement win for the Oilers. Not only are we winning without McDavid, but the team as a whole is starting to come together at the perfect time.
