Edmonton Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard may have just committed the worst turnover of the year, resulting in a shorthanded goal, followed by a penalty moments later.

Evan Bouchard is having a tough go of things as of late, and his costly mistake resulted in the Oilers falling behind 1-0 minutes into the first frame.

Minutes into the 1st period, Mattias Janmark put the Edmonton Oilers on the power play following a strong move to the net, and the Edmonton Oilers were in a prime position to open the scoring.

Minutes into the ensuing man advantage, Edmonton Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard made a clumsy play on the blue line, losing his footing and turning the puck over to Jesper Boqvist who buried it past Stuart Skinner to put the Florida Panthers up 1-0.

To add insult to injury, Evan Bouchard took a costly penalty shortly after, putting the Edmonton Oilers in a tough situation within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Evan Bouchard is starting to display an alarming trend with these brutal giveaways.

Last week, the Oilers faced off against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Bouchard made a similar error.

Evan Bouchard makes a costly mistake

Oiler D-man Evan Bouchard had the puck in the Oilers zone for what should have been a routine breakout pass, but he got too ambitious, attempting to squeak a pass through two Tampa Bay Lightning defenders in the middle of ice - a classic no-no.

Hopefully, he can bounce back from this costly error with a solid performance heading into the 2nd period.
