Edmonton Oilers poised to make a move on veteran forward
Recently, a significant move by the St. Louis Blues has sent shockwaves down the NHL as veteran forward Brandon Saad hit the waiver wire. In a shocking twist, Brandon Saad opted for contract termination to re-inject life into his dwindling hockey career.
By terminating his contract, Brandon Saad is walking away from a significant amount of cash -- millions to be exact.
Saad will walk away from his remaining salary this season and the $3.63M (cash) next year.
He wants to play in the NHL; both player and team felt this gave him the best opportunity to do so. Next year's salary and cap hit ($4.5M) was a big hurdle for other teams

Brandon Saad connected to the Edmonton Oilers
Hockey analysts around the league are making bold predictions about Saad's future, claiming Edmonton would be the perfect destination for the former Stanley Cup Champion.
It's no secret that general manager Stan Bowman was the architect regarding Chicago's dynasty years.
With Saad's former ties to Bowman, a league minimum contract on a Stanley Cup contending team might be exactly what the veteran forward needs to breathe life back into his career.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, on yesterday's edition of Oilers Now, Insider Bob Stauffer hinted that Brandon Saad was one player who indicated he'd be interested in coming to Edmonton. That could suggest the Oilers and Saad have already been in communication.
Not everybody's wanted to come here. Well, now a lot of them want to come here, clearly the guy that was waived today.
- Bob Stauffer
Will Brandon Saad be the newest member of the Edmonton Oilers? Time will tell.
