Breaking news in Oil Country as former Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland has just locked down a new job in the NHL.

According to TSN, former general manager Ken Holland was named as a consultant for the National Hockey League's Hockey Operations Department on Tuesday.

"We are delighted to welcome Ken to NHL Hockey Operations, where he will provide invaluable insight from his decades in the game as a player, scout and executive. He offers unmatched expertise in a wide range of areas," NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell said in a statement.

The 69-year-old Holland left his job as Edmonton Oilers general manager and president of hockey operations in late June following a five-year run with the team, highlighted by an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final last spring.

As per Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Ken Holland has one of the best track records of a General Manager in hockey history, having won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings and building the Oilers into a power house team.

At the same time, Oilers fans know well that Holland has made his fair share of mistakes which hurt the Oilers - the biggest ones being the contracts for Jack Campbell and Darnell Nurse.

I think it's pretty safe to say that every GM in the NHL has made their fair share of mistakes. But personally, I think Ken Holland did a respectable job as GM of the team.

Last year, he brought the Oilers all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, falling one game short of his 5th career Stanley Cup.

Ken Holland was also responsible for signing Zach Hyman, which has been regarded as one of the best free agent signings in NHL history.

Oilers Insider would like to wish Ken Holland the best of luck in his new role with the NHL.
