The Edmonton Oilers currently rank dead last in the NHL in hits, and fans are starting to question the team's toughness heading into the postseason.

The Edmonton Oilers are currently in the middle of a 4 game road trip, and Stan Bowman made the questionable decision to re-call Josh Brown, who is the Oilers worst defenceman by a long-shot.

While he may not be the most skilled blue-liner, Edmonton Oilers insider Mark Spector believes Josh Brown will have a larger role on the team moving forward.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Spector believes that to make up for the Oilers lack of toughness through the lineup, Knoblauch may give Brown an extended run of games to see what they have in the veteran defender.

»They wouldn't mind having a little more physicality and they're not the biggest team, they wouldn't mind having a little more size. I think it's time to find out if Josh Brown is gonna be the answer.»

- Mark Spector

Over the offseason, the Edmonton Oilers signed Josh Brown to a 3 year deal worth $1 million AAV per season -- an overpayment to say the least.

Josh Brown's preseason campaign with the team was so bad, Stan Bowman ultimately cut him from the roster and placed him on waivers.

Now, Mark Spector seems to think the Oilers have found a potential solution to their lack of grit in Josh Brown.

For some reason Spector believes there's something here, but in reality, it just may be exploring an alternative for Stecher - a fairly inconsequential move in the grand scheme of things.

Will he stay on the starting rotation leading up to the post season? Time will tell.
