The Edmonton Oilers are slowing slow sings of improvements, but Edmonton Oilers Insider David Staples suggest the Oilers make two big roster moves to improve their situation.

The Edmonton Oilers are currently 10-8-2, and it's clear the team is struggling to get any depth scoring from their bottom 6.

David Staples suggests the Edmonton Oilers are considering healthy scratching Corey Perry, and putting Derek Ryan on waivers.

»Ryan and Perry are the two eldest Oilers forwards and they're no longer getting the job done as they once did If Kapanen replaces Perry just now, it would make sense to call up Philp to replace Ryan, and to bring up Caggiula as the 12 forward.»
- David Staples, The Edmonton Journal

With the recent acquisition of Kasperi Kapanen, Staples suggests he replaces Perry's spot on the 4th line, and re-calling Noah Philp to take Ryan's spot. He also advises that the Oilers re-call Drake Caggiula as the 12th forward.

It's no secret at this point that the Edmonton Oilers have the oldest roster in the NHL -- and it's clearly becoming a problem in regards to the 4th line.

Corey Perry and Derek Ryan are both 39 years old, and it's becoming evident they're struggling to generate any sort of offensive consistency.

Corey Perry could be kept on the roster, but shouldn't be playing every game at 39 years old at his current level of play. Derek Ryan would likely pass through waivers as well.

The Oilers have already made an admission that they need more speed in their forward group with the waiver claim of Kasperi Kapanen, and if they want to continue to shift that way, taking out the veterans will be the next step. In the absence of Victor Arvidsson, the Oilers have been running with 11 forwards and 7 defenceman, increasing the ice time for the veterans.
-Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily

Re-calling Noah Philp and Drake Caggiula would give the Oilers an added spark, and the team could use Corey Perry and Derek Ryan as they see fit.
