Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman is gearing up for the most crucial trade deadline in franchise history, and forward Evander Kane's name has now landed in the trade rumour mill.

The team recently announced that Evander Kane recently underwent successful knee surgery, and is expected to miss roughly 8 weeks.

With that being said, Stan Bowman will be looking to make big splashes at the deadline, and the Oilers may need to dish one of their prime assets to get a deal done.

As much as I love Evander Kane, he hasnt played since last season. After three significant surgeries and extended time off, the Oilers face uncertainty about his readiness and worry he might be slow to get back up to game speed upon his return.

Oilers could trade Evander Kane if necessary

According to the Daily Hive, Even if he does play this season, there is not an obvious spot for him in the current Oilers lineup, especially at LW. The depth chart is very deep at that position with all of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Vasily Podkolzin, Jeff Skinner, and Mattias Janmark taking up spots on the roster.

It's worth noting that Kane's full no-movement clause expires on Feb. 28, and instead turns into a 16-team no-trade list. This means that Kane would have a say in where he goes but wouldn't be able to veto a deal with the 16 teams who aren't on his list. Don't be surprised to see the Oilers try and take advantage of that this coming offseason. - The Hockey Writers Rupert McDonald

The Oilers remain optimistic that Kane will be able to return to the Oilers once he is fully healed, but it's in the best interest for the Oilers organization to look at all options and potentially dangle Kane in front of teams who may have an abundance of defensemen that they're willing to trade for.

It should be interesting to see how the situation plays out leading up to the trade deadline.
