Leon Draisaitl reveals his top objective heading into the new year
Leon Draisaitl has been one of the hottest players this season. With a Rocket Richard, Selke, Art Ross, and Conn Smythe trophy all within the realm of possibilities, it should be interesting to see how things unfold for the Deutsch Dangler. While he's been an offensive threat all season, he admits there's still areas of his game he'd like to improve.
During the Oilers last game against Utah HC, Leon recorded an empty net goal to push his season high tallies to 27.
While leading the NHL in goals is an impressive accomplishment, it's not his top priority.
Following the game, Draisaitl made himself available for his usual postgame interviews, unveiling his top objectives for the new year.
Leon wants to improve his two-way game.
That's why a roster can have the leading goal scorer in the league, and - just like his team's balanced goals-for and goals-against - his focus remains on his two-way game more than trying to run away with the goal-scoring race.
«I think just the consistency of it, is something I'm very proud of,» said Draisaitl. «I've always had moments where I can defend really, really well, it was just a matter of doing it each and every night.
«And I think for pretty much all year, I've done that. I've taken big steps in that and prioritized my defensive game. I think it's obviously shown. But even with that, I think there's another level to me.»

Leon admits that he's proud of how far his two-way game has come, but he knows there's another level yet to be unleashed.
«It's everything combined. It's commitment, it's committing to it. And while you're committing to it, you're due to making it a habit at some point,» Draisaitl said. «Once you have a habit, you want to keep that because habits are hard to break.
«In life, every habit is extremely hard to get out of. So, I've established that bar in my defensive game, and now it's a matter of developing and getting better at it, and keeping that habit.»
While adding more trophies to his resume would be nice, Leon is shifting his focus to achieving a more well rounded game by focusing on the game's finer details.
