Another player looking to keep the momentum going is Leon Draisaitl, who seems to be a completely different player after being benched in the Philadelphia Flyers game back in October.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Draisaitl is now leading the Oilers in goals and points, as well as posting incredible defensive results.
If he keeps up this level of play for the season, some Oilers fans and analysts believe he could be in contention for the Selke Trophy for best defensive player in the NHL this year.
The Frank J. Selke Trophy, or simply the Selke Trophy, is awarded annually to the National Hockey League forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.
Leon Draisaitl is already one of the more decorated players in modern day NHL, with a Ted Lindsay, Art Ross, and Hart trophy already in his resume.
With that being said, I don't think anyone ever anticipated a Selke Trophy being in the realm of possibilities for the Deutsch Dangler, but now, his incredible defensive play so far has earned him some well deserved consideration.
When Connor McDavid suffered a lower body injury during the Oielrs 6-1 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets, all eyes were on Leon Draisaitl to lead the team in his absence -- and he did just that.
