Mattias Ekholm calls out Jack Eichel for dangerous cross-check
With just a few minutes remaining in the second period, Jack Eichel crosses his twig over the back of Ekholm's numbers and drove him into the boards.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Oilers players and fans erupted in response as every player on the ice gathered for a scrum in the corner.
Ekholm was down on the ice for a moment and Evan Bouchard was first into the corner to grab a Golden Knight, and the rest of the Oilers followed suit.
Thankfully, Ekholm got up and looked fine, while beginning to fire back Eichel verbally for the play.
-Liam McCormick Although Jack Eichel's cross-check sparked a wave of outrage in Rogers Place, the frustration escalated when no penalty was called on the play.
Mattias Ekholm commented on the hit during a post-game interview
«Yeah, I don't know what to say. I think it's pretty self explanatory. The explanation I got was that he didn't think the cross check was that forceful.
I kind of look at the whole picture, and obviously I think it's a penalty if I were to do that to somebody and get two minutes, I wouldn't say a word about it. It's a dangerous play.»
«What I heard from Connor right away was that he said it was a battle. I don't really see it as a battle I went out and asked, any explanation? I've had Francis for a long time, I respect him, but I think that he missed a call.»
Thankfully, Mattias Ekholm walked away from the situation unscathed, but he didn't hold back regarding his feeling towards the hit.
