Breaking news in the NHL as the league has decided to postponed the Calgary Flames vs Los Angeles Kings game due to the current wildfire emergency happening in California.

According to Sportsnet, The NHL postponed the Los Angeles Kings' home game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday with several massive wildfires still burning across the greater Los Angeles area.

The Kings and Flames were scheduled to play Wednesday night at the Kings' downtown arena. The NBA's Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to host the Charlotte Hornets in the same arena on Thursday night.

«Our hearts are with our entire Los Angeles community,» the Kings said in a statement. «We appreciate the hard working first responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league's support in keeping our fans, staff, and players safe.»

Albertans are no strangers to wildfires, and fans around the NHL seem to be supportive of the NHL's decision.

Despite fans missing out on the opportunity to watch their favourite teams tonight, hockey isn't remotely important in the grand scheme of things.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Postponing games for environmental emergencies has plenty of precedent in recent seasons - most recently including the Tampa Bay Lightning during a hurricane.

The game between the Flames and the Kings will be made up at a later date, and for now, fans can only hope the best for the city and people of Los Angeles.
