The Toronto Maple Leafs faced off against the Edmonton Oilers last night in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season.
Although the game was highly entertaining, Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse suffered a nasty headshot at the hands of Ryan Reaves, forcing him to leave the game to undergo medical treatment.
Midway through the 2nd period, Darnell Nurse was retrieving the puck in what appeared to be a routine play, but Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer came charging around the corner, deliberately clipping Darnell Nurse in the face.
For a brief moment, it looked like Darnell Nurse was knocked unconscious as blood was profusely leaking from his head.
New reports indicate that The NHL has officially suspended Ryan Reaves for a total of 5 games, according to a statement from the Department of Player Safety.
The Edmonton Oilers unfortunately fell short 4-3 in overtime.
As it stands, Reaves will be sidelined for the next 5 games as we await further medical updates regarding Darnell Nurse.
The Edmonton Oilers will look for a bounce back performance when they take on the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night at the Bell Center.
Oilers Central would like to wish Darnell Nurse a swift recovery. Hopefully he'll be back in action soon enough.
