The Colorado Avalanche are facing off against the Philadelphia Flyers tonight, but very unfortunate play involving a referee has quieted the arena.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Moments ago in tonight's game between the Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers, Avs defenceman Josh Manson accidentally knocked into a referee causing a scary scene.

Manson was merely skating into a play in the offensive zone, and didn't see a referee on track to hit him. The referee, went down hard, and stayed down on the ice for several moments before being stretchered off.

Upon the replay, it appears as if Manson accidently cross checked Mitch Dunning (referee) causing him to down immediately. Gauging by Dunning's reaction, you could tell the injury was extremely serious.

Manson is never known to be the type of player labeled as "dirty" or "menacing, but fans are currently lighting him on on social media in what appears to be a preventable collision.

Hockey is an extremely fast moving game, and unfortunately, refs will often get caught in the cross-fire. The life was sucked out of the arena almost instantinously, and you could tell both fans and players were concerned for Dunning's well-being.

Although the scene was hard to watch, It's fantastic news that the NHL has already updated fans and revealed that Dunning is in good shape. NHL fans may not always be too fond of the referees, but in this case, Dunning will receive all love from the hockey world

Oilers Central will keep close tabs on the situation pending more medical updates. Answer our poll to get in on the conversation!
