It was recently revealed that Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse will be sidelined for 5-10 games due to a brutal head shot by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves, but another massive issue has emerged.

First off, I just want to ask, what happened to the guts of this team? Midway through the 2nd period, Darnell Nurse was retrieving the puck in what appeared to be a routine play, but Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer came charging around the corner, deliberately clipping Darnell Nurse in the face.

With that being said, after the play transpired, not one Edmonton Oiler stepped up to defend Darnell Nurse.

Yes, Ryan Reaves was issued a 5 minute major and was ejected from the game, but where on earth was the retribution for Darnell Nurse?

This may strictly an opinion piece, but I currently manage the Oilers Insider Facebook page, and fans have been irate with the lack of initiative from the Oilers players.

After the headshot, the Oilers looked completely dejected, allowing the Toronto Maple Leafs to crawl back from a 2-1 deficit. After the loss, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins called out Reaves for the hit:

"It's a dangerous play & he's gotta know that Nursey doesn't see him coming & choose the right path there. He doesn't & it's tough to see one of your teammates on the ice like that."

Fans have been outspoken about the Oilers lack of retribution, with many expressing how much they miss Evander Kane's physical presence on the ice.

Hopefully, the Oilers play tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens with way ore assertiveness, or NHL teams will start to take advantage of the softness of this team.
