Moments ago, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they signed defenceman John Klingberg. New reports from TSN insider Darren Dregger reveal that Klingberg's new deal is a 1 year pro-rated contract worth $1 million, including a $350k signing bonus.

Initially, fans seemed convinced that Klingberg's new deal would be a league minimum deal, but Stan Bowman has inked him to a contract exceeding those expectations.
While the conditions of his $350k bonus are still unclear, John Klingberg has landed himself a pretty handsome deal in Oil Country.

Is John Klingberg a good fit for the Edmonton Oilers?

It's not secret that the Edmonton Oilers have been aggressively searching the market for some help on the blue-line.
Klingberg is an offensively-minded right-shot defenceman who had several big seasons with the Dallas Stars. He recorded a career-high 68 points in 2017-18 and has had six seasons in which he has put up 40 or more.
Klingberg is exactly the type of defenceman the Oilers are seeking. He's a big, smooth skating blue-liner with a right shot who can play top-4 minutes.
While some fans think Klingberg's best days are behind him, his new contract with the Oilers is still relatively low risk.
Although it's possible Stan Bowman overpaid for his newest acquisition, the true value of the deal won't be clear until he suits up for his first game.
As it stands, John Klingberg is expected to play on the Oilers 2nd defensive pairing alongside Darnell Nurse.
