The stage was set for an epic Stanley Cup Final rematch tonight, and the Edmonton Oilers played an electric, high intensity game for a full 60 minutes.
Although the Edmonton Oilers managed to put up 5 goals against Florida Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, it wasn't quite enough as Stuart Skinner failed to make crucial stops late in the game.
From start to finish, it was an extremely poor performance by Stuart Skinner.
Skinner finished the game with a jaw dropping .750 SP, saving just 22 of 28 shots against.
Over the past few games, Stuart Skinner has had decent stretch, going 4-1-0 in his last 5 starts with a 1.41 GAA and a .947 SV% in that span.
However, it seems that his performance tonight has overshadowed all the positives from his previous starts, yet again struggling to come up clutch in the most important moments of the game.
While he's had respectable stretches during the regular season, when it comes down to it, he's far too prone to inconsistencies.
In particular, many fans have noticed his poor lateral movement, with NHL players also catching on to this fundamental flaw in Skinner's game.
Morever, Skinner's confidence under pressure looked incredibly fragile. One could only cringe every time a Florida Panther player took a shot, and it quickly became clear that he was unable to handle the pressure, eventually collapsing in the late stages of the third period.
As much as I like Stuart Skinner, he's not giving fans much reassurance when the games will really start to matter in playoffs.
