Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has been on the lookout to secure some help on the back-end, and TSN insider Pierre LeBrun as just revealed Ivan Provorov's price-tag.

The Edmonton Oilers seem to be following the trend of taking one step forward, and then two steps back.

Although nagging injuries have impacted the team's success as of late, there's no denying the Oilers need to bring in some help to bolster their blue-line.

With that being said, the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Ivan Provorov in the past, and TSN insider Pierre LeBrun has recently announced his price-tag

»They will most likely trade the pending UFA Provorov when the time is right, and the asking price will be a first-round pick. And they may not necessarily wait for March 7 if a team steps up with that first-round pick earlier.»
-Pierre LeBrun, The Athletic

The Edmonton Oilers have first round draft picks in 2025-2026, but the team is currently stuck in "win now" mode.

If the Oilers do end up trading for Provorov, they'll likely have to pay a bit more than the first round draft pick to get Columbus or another team to retain some of his $4.725M salary cap hit.

Provorov is a reliable top four left shot defender, but he hasn't played to the best of his abilities through his career. Daily FaceOff's Frank Seravalli recently detailed the drop-off in Provorov's game.
-Liam McCormick, Oilers Daily

As per McCormick, last season on the Blue Jackets, Provorov had a decent season, scoring 5 goals and 32 points and posting a -11 rating.

Although Provorov is reliable shut-down defenceman, signing him would definitely come with some controversy -- something the Edmonton Oilers are fairly accustomed to.

Provorov and was the centre of attention back in 2023 as result of a themed «pride night game» for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Provorov refused to come on the ice for warm-ups because the team was ordered to wear pride jerseys and tape - but refused to participate, citing his religious beliefs.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to bounce-back from their disappointing 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild when they take on the New York Rangers on Saturday.
