Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers are facing off against the New York Rangers, but there have been some notable customizations made to the Oilers dressing room.
Unfortunately, on August 10th, 2022, little Ben Stelter lost his battle to glioblastoma, a terrible form of brain cancer. An outpouring of sympathy and condolences swept through the NHL and their fan bases for this amazing kid -- but support hasn't wavered in Oil Country.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, McDavid was interviewed earlier this week about Hockey Fights Cancer month, and the Oilers superstar spoke glowingly about Ben and the Stelter family.
Connor McDavid's locker has a plaque on it that says "I Play For the Stelter Family" and it's clear the Oilers captain will be playing with some extra fuel tonight in memory of his special friend.
Recently, The Ben Stelter Foundation has made a strategic partnership with The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF), and they have announced they have raised over $100 million dollars in funds.
Last season, the theme of the playoffs was "Win it for Ben" and the Oilers came just 2 goals shy of winning the Stanley Cup in his honour.
Hopefully, the Oilers will be playing "La Bamba" tonight as an added tribute to the late Ben Stelter.
