The Edmonton Oilers face one of their biggest tests of the 2024-25 season as they take on a formidable Minnesota Wild team.

The Edmonton Oilers have slowly been finding their offensive game, scoring 5 goals last game in a dominant performance over the Ottawa Senators.

With that being said, they are taking on a whole different animal tonight regarding the Minnesota Wild.

Currently ranked 4th in the NHL, the Minnesota Wild post a 12-3-3 and have been on an absolute tear to start the NHL season -- with their superstar Kirill Kaprizov leading the charge.

As per the Hockey News, he's taken the next step this season, cementing himself as the legitimate Hart Trophy favourite with 13 goals (4th in the league) and 33 points (2nd) through 18 games.

He owns an incredible 76% goals share, to go with 66.5% of the expected goals. His line with longtime running mate Mats Zuccarello and youngster Marco Rossi is one of the very best in the NHL.

The Wild also have a Vezina candidate to go with their MVP candidate. Filip Gustavsson is authoring his second excellent season in the past three, bouncing back from a disappointing 2023-24.

He's taken the full-time starting job away from future Hall-Of-Famer Marc-Andre Fleury, starting 14 of the Wild's 18 games. Oh, and he can score a little, too.

The Edmonton Oilers face even greater odds tonight as it was announced earlier that Zach Hyman and Viktor Arvidsson will be sidelined due to injury.

It's also worth mentioning that newly acquired Kasperi Kapanen will make his highly anticipated debut tonight for the Oilers, playing the second line.

Can the Oilers get the job done without Arvidsson and Hyman? Time will tell.
