Edmonton Oilers fans outraged over lack of transparency of injured players timelines
The Edmonton Oilers staff are currently taking some heat due to the lack of transparency concerning their injured players.
Earlier today it was announced that forwards Zach Hyman and Viktor Arvidsson will be sidelined for the next few games, but head coach Kris Knoblauch recently issued another concerning update on Arvidsson.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Last week, Arvidsson's absence at practice was described as a maintenance day, and now he's missed 5 straight games.
Arvidsson likely has suffered a setback on an injury that was supposed to be a minor problem, and now Coach Knoblauch has confirmed Arvidsson will miss even more time.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman also chimed in on the conversation of injury disclosure, stating that he believes the protocols won't change.
I recognize that NHLers hate the idea of greater transparency with the passion of 1,000 burning suns. Their arguments are fair, ranging from: «Its private, none of your business» to «I'm going to get targeted if opponents know.» I don't expect anything to change beyond «upper-body, lower body».
- Elliotte Friedman, 32 Thoughts
Although I agree with Friedman, the fanbase should have the right to know the health overall status of their favourite players.
Arvidsson was initially listed as 50/50, then day-to-day, and then ruled out on IR the day of a crucial game -- frustrating to say the least.
As of now, no one knows for sure how long Arvidsson will be out. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and returns to the lineup soon enough.
The Edmonton Oilers will look have to make due without Arvidsson and Hyman in the lineup against the Minnesota Wild, including the New York Rangers on Saturday.
