Edmonton Oilers newest acquisition speaks to the media for the first time
The Edmonton Oilers are getting a glimpse of their newest acquisition tonight against the Minnesota Wild, and Kasperi Kapanen recently addressed the media for the first time since landing in Edmonton.
"I think I've got decent size & I think my skating is probably the best attribute I have. So just try to use those much as I can & bring energy & try to help as best I can."
-Kasperi Kapanen
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, The Edmonton Oilers made a significant roster move a few days ago by claiming Kasperi Kapanen on waivers, a former first round draft pick who will immediately enter the NHL lineup.
Recently, head coach Kris Knoblauch revealed that Kasperi Kapanen will be making his highly anticipated debut tonight on the Oilers second line alongside Jeff Skinner and Ryan-Nugent Hopkins.
Kapanen has a versatile skillset that could be a nice compliment on the Edmonton Oilers top 6.
Although he's only manage to notch 7 goals in the past 80+ games, perhaps a change of scenery is exactly what he needs to get going.
Kapanen is coming into tonight matchup with some fairly significant shoes to fill. Forwards Zach Hyman and Viktor Arvidsson have been ruled out due to injury, and the team will look to Kapanen to provide a much needed offensive punch.
However, there's a reason Kapanen was on waivers. A Finnish news source perfectly explained that Kapanen has lost his spark over his career, and could be in his last NHL stint if he doesn't impress in Edmonton.
Kapanen hasn't scored more than 13 goals since the 2019-20 season now, and last year, he was barely noticeable with 6 goals and 22 points in 73 games.
