According to Oilers insider Jim Matheson, Klim Kostin finds himself at a tipping point. Kostin has been healthy scratched for 3 weeks since being benched in October.
Kostin is playing out the final year of his contract in San Jose, and he hasn't been doing himself any favours regarding future consideration from other NHL teams. Matheson suggests that if the Sharks don't him, he may find himself out of a job.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Kostin's 57 games with the Edmonton Oilers seems to be an anomaly in his career. With Edmonton, Kostin was an electric power forward who was great on the forecheck, had the ability to score, and had the clutch ability too. Maybe he recovers that magic in Edmonton, but it's a real concern that he can't even make the Sharks roster right now.
Liam McCormick suggests that the Edmonton Oilers could potentially consider signing Klim Kostin at league minimum if salary retention comes into play, but as it stands, that seems highly unlikely.
Oilers fans will be keeping close tabs on Kostin to see if his situation improves, but his future in the NHL is looking increasingly grim.
It's really unfortunate to see a player who once held so much promise experience such a rapid decline. It's easy to imagine how different his fortunes might have been has he stayed in Oil Country.
