Edmonton Oilers prospect is tearing it up in the OHL
The Edmonton Oilers traded their way into the 1st round of the 2024 NHL entry draft, and they hit a home-run regarding top prospect Sam O'Reilly.
As per Oilers Nation, They swapped a top 12 protected 2025 first-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for their 32nd pick in the first round of the 2024 draft, promptly selecting Sam O'Reilly from the London Knights of the OHL.
Sam O'Reilly came into training camp this season with relatively low expectations, but he emerged as one of the feel-good preseason stories.
O'Reilly also had an impressive showing during the Young Stars Classic Tournament in Penticton. BC. Although the young guns went 0-4, hockey analysts have reported that Sam O'Reilly was arguably the most notable player on the ice.
Despite a strong showing at the Young Stars Classic, I don't think anyone anticipated the type of impression O'Reilly would have of coaches and fans.
Sam O'Reilly made it to the bitter end of training camp before being sent back to London, but he's emerged as one of the top offensive players on the team this season.
The young center has five goals in his past five games. Three of those tallies have come on the powerplay. In his last game, he recorded two goals with the man advantage.
The young pivot also has 18 shots in his last five games, 75 over the entire season. He's averaging over half of a shot more per game this year (3.12) compared to last year (2.42).
The Oilers have a very interesting player. Fans should keep a keen eye on him as he continues to develop this season.
