The Calgary Flames almost stole these two players via offer sheet
The Edmonton Oilers are still coming to terms with losing two of their best players to the St. Louis Blues over the off season, but new reports have made the storyline a bit more interesting.
Despite the Oilers taking a considerable loss, NHL inside Jeff Marek explains how the situation could have been for more devastating.
According to Marek, the Calgary Flames were one of 4 teams who showed extreme interest in acquiring Philip Broberg ad Dylan Holloway.
On the debut episode of The Sheet, Jeff Marek broke the news, noting that this would have been a continuation of some of the nastiness that has existed between the two franchises over the last four decades of the two teams' histories.
While it is a different level of battle from the «days of Dave Semenko and Marty McSorely and Don Jackson and Tim Hunter and Jim Peplinski and everybody else going at it on the ice», it would have put a new twist on one of the best rivalries in the game.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Broberg and Holloway signed offer sheets with the Blues for $4.58M and $2.29M respectively, salaries that would've put the Oilers in an impossible situation this year and next year. The Oilers took the easy route to not match the offer sheets, and take a second and third round draft pick in compensation.
As a die hard fan, watching Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway play in Calgary would have been unbearable.
Dylan Holloway is born and raised in Calgary, so one can only assume the idea of playing for the Flames would have been appealing.
It's already bad enough that both players have having career years in St. Louis, but the fact that Broberg and Holloway could've been snatched at the hands of the Calgary Flames would have been a storyline for the ages.
This news does beg the question, would the Oilers have tried harder to match the offer sheet knowing that it was Calgary who was making the deal? And had they matched it, what would the Oilers have done to do so.
